Learn English Over the Summer

SIEP 2025

Our three and six-week sessions are designed for undergraduates, graduate students, exchange students, and working professionals seeking to improve their academic English skills amongst other learners from all over the globe. Our program has a history of success and will help you develop the skills, fluency, and confidence you need to communicate effectively in English.

Intensive English Program Classroom

Three Week Sessions

What Will You Study

Classes meet four hours each weekday and focus on:

  • The four skills, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Grammar
  • Pronunciation
  • Intercultural Communication

Placement and Evaluation

At the start of the program, students will be given an institutional TOEFL exam with the oral and written components to determine proficiency levels. Based upon test results, students will be placed in:

  • beginner,
  • intermediate,
  • or advanced level classes

Throughout the program students will be given daily homework assignments, quizzes, projects, and finals to assess progress and proficiency.

Practice English Beyond The Classroom

  • Students may participate in optional tutoring sessions scheduled in the afternoons as well as a conversation hour in the evening.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in activities on campus, in the Oswego community, and in the surrounding area to further enhance learning opportunities.
  • Practice English and experience American culture with day trips to the farmers market, Syracuse, the local 4th of July celebrations, and more.

Accommodations

Students will stay in a campus residence hall. The residence hall has a game room, coin operated laundry and vending machines. Each room is designed for two students and is fully furnished including towels and bedsheets as well as a room refrigerator to share. On campus meals are included as part of the program.

Travel

Students are expected to fly into the Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York. The airport is 50 minutes away from the campus. Flight costs are not included in the program fee. SUNY Oswego will provide transportation to and from the airport on a reserved bus on specified dates and times.

Step 1- Register and pay the $150.00 application fee

This non-refundable application fee is not an additional cost, it will be applied toward the total program cost.  Make sure you print out a copy of your confirmation page.

Step 2 - Complete The Release & Indemnification Form

In order to confirm your registration, SUNY Oswego must receive the Release & Indemnification Form as soon as possible.

Step 3 - Complete the Insurance, Photo Release, Roommate Selection & Dietary Restrictions Form

In order to confirm your registration, SUNY Oswego must receive the Insurance, Photo Release, Roommate Selection & Dietary Restrictions Form as soon as possible.

Step 4 - Set up your Laker ID

The SUNY Oswego Registrar's office will email you instructions for setting up a Laker ID. You will need this ID to upload your immunization records and complete your health history and meningitis fact sheet form.

Step 5 - Download and Complete the Immunization Form

You can download & complete our Immunization Form.  Your nurse at school or doctor can fill it out.  You can also use the standard immunization letter your school has.  It has to be in English and it has to cover all shots required in our form. The Immunization Form is uploaded in Step 6.

Step 6 - Complete the Health History Form and Upload Your Immunization Record

You will be redirected to Health Services at SUNY Oswego. You will need your Laker ID to login. Locate the upload tab to submit your immunization record. Locate the forms tab to complete the Health History form.

Step 7 - Pay the Balance of Your Program Fee
