Online Student Complaint Process

SUNY Students Online Course Complaint Process

If you are a SUNY Oswego student registered in an online program please refer to the Student Handbook and the New York State Education Department guidelines.

The SUNY Oswego Consumer Information: Student Right to Know page  provides access to the appropriate complaint procedures for Title IX, sexual harrassment, and unlawful discrimination.

Other other consumer complaints related to distance learning, outside of those defined above in the Student Handbook, may be submitted to the Assistant Dean of Extended Learning at [email protected].

In the event campus grievance procedures have been followed and all avenues of appeals exhausted and documented, and the issue remains unresolved, a complaint may be submitted to System Administration of the State University of New York. Please note, this does not include complaints related to grades or student conduct violations, both of which are to be fully addressed via campus processes. See the section below on Out of State Distance Education Complaints for complaints related to distance education programs when a student resides outside of New York State.

Out of State Distance Education Complaints

SUNY Oswego is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) and follows the complaint resolution policies and procedures outlined within the SARA Policy Manual and summarized here.
Consumer protection complaints resulting from distance education courses, activities, and operations may be submitted to SUNY Oswego for investigation and resolution. If a student is dissatisfied with the campus-based resolution, a concern may be submitted to System Administration of the State University of New York as outlined here. And, if still not satisfied, a complaint may be submitted, within two years of the incident about which the complaint is made, to the New York State Education Department as outlined here.

Please note, this does not include complaints related to grades or student conduct violations, both of which are to be fully addressed via campus processes, not through the NC-SARA complaint resolution procedures. Find more about Policy and Procedures for Student Complaints on the Consumer Information: Student Right to Know page.
