Online Student Complaint Process

SUNY Students Online Course Complaint Process

If you are a SUNY Oswego student registered in an online program, please refer to the Student Handbook and the New York State Education Department SARA guidelines.

The SUNY Oswego Consumer Information: Student Right to Know page provides access to the appropriate complaint procedures for Title IX, sexual harassment, and unlawful discrimination.

Other consumer complaints related to distance learning — beyond those defined in the Student Handbook — may be submitted to The Division Extended Learning, at [email protected].

Please note: SARA does not cover complaints related to grades or student conduct violations. These concerns must be addressed through SUNY Oswego’s internal procedures. For more information, visit the Consumer Information: Student Right to Know page.

If campus grievance procedures have been followed and all avenues of appeal have been exhausted and documented, and the issue remains unresolved, a complaint may be submitted to the System Administration of the State University of New York (SUNY) within two years of the incident about which the complaint is made.

Out of State Distance Education Complaints

SUNY Oswego is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) and follows the complaint resolution policies and procedures outlined in the SARA Policy Manual.

Consumer protection complaints resulting from distance education courses, activities, and operations may be submitted to SUNY Oswego for investigation and resolution. Consumer complaints related to distance learning — beyond those defined in the Student Handbook — may be submitted to The Division of Extended Learning, at [email protected].

If a student is dissatisfied with the campus-based resolution, a concern may be submitted to the SUNY System Administration within two years of the incident about which the complaint is made.

If still not satisfied, a complaint may be submitted — within two years of the incident — to the New York State Education Department.

Please note: Complaints related to grades or student conduct violations are not covered by the SARA process and must be addressed through SUNY Oswego's campus procedures. For more information, visit the Consumer Information: Student Right to Know page.
