Health Fee and Insurance

Health Fee:

What is the mandatory health fee?:

The health fee is required for all students (In-person, Syracuse campus, and online), and is included in your college bill. It helps cover the cost of running Health Services, Counseling Services and wellness programs. These services are available both in-person and online (telemedicine and telecounseling).

Part-time students who are not taking classes during the summer or winter but still want to use Health Services will need to pay a fee. The health fee is based on the number of credit hours a student takes. This is not a pay per visit fee.

For more information and to view the cost of the health fee, please visit The Office of Student Accounts fee descriptions page.

The health fee covers:

  • Health Services
  • Counseling Services Center
  • Health and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Education events

Student Health Insurance:

Health Insurance for Domestic Students:

Starting July 2026, SUNY Oswego does not require students to have health insurance or to submit an insurance waiver. However, students are strongly encouraged to have health insurance to cover the cost of medical care done outside of Health Services (ex: labs, urgent care visits, etc.).

If your insurance does not work in the Oswego area (out of network) or you need help getting Insurance, you can refer to or contact:

Health Insurance for International students:

You must enroll in the SUNY health insurance plan. Visit the International Student and Scholars Services website for more information.
