Online Writing Tutoring Program Pilot
In response to growing demand for accessible writing support, this online writing tutoring pilot will launch during the Spring 2025 semester. This pilot will expand support from the Office of Learning Services by offering synchronous online writing tutoring.
Graduate students, online undergraduate students, and distance learners (at our Syracuse campus, for example) will have access to this resource.
If you have any questions or need additional support, please email Stephanie Pritchard, Writing Center Coordinator, at [email protected].
Sessions will take place on Zoom, and we’ll use Google Docs for leaving feedback and for collaboration during the session. Please make sure you have access to both tools before your appointment.
You should be familiar with logging into Zoom using your Oswego credentials and know how to use your camera and microphone during a session. For technical help, you can visit this Campus Technology Service resource: A Fundamental Overview of Zoom.
You will be asked to share your document with your writing tutor via Google Docs. Your tutor can help you with this once you enter the Zoom session. Please bring your assignment to the session as well. Ensure you have a quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a working camera and microphone. We suggest you use a tablet or a computer. Please keep your camera on during your session. If you are unable to meet these requirements, we’ll kindly ask you to reschedule.
Writing tutors reserve one hour for your online writing tutoring session. It’s helpful if you come to your session with questions or goals you’d like to achieve. All writing tutoring sessions are in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
If you are not able to attend your appointment, please email [email protected] or call the OLS office at 315-312-2571.
Please arrive at your Zoom session on time. If you will be late, please email your tutor to notify them. Appointments cannot be extended beyond their scheduled time. Your writing tutor will be in a private office during your session to ensure that your writing is kept confidential and to respect your privacy. Please be aware that all sessions will be recorded and reviewed by the Writing
Center Coordinator.
