Technology Resources

We understand technology is a necessity for academic success, but is not always readily accessible to students. Students seeking technology resources can explore laptop loan programs, equipment borrowing, and the student emergency fund for support.

Semester Laptop Loans

In partnership with Penfield Library, the Office of the Dean of Students screens need-based applications for students in need of a laptop to complete their academic studies.

We have a limited number of computers available for need-based semester-length loans. Students must meet the following eligibility requirements and guidelines to utilize semester laptop loans.

Laptop Loan Guidelines
  • Financial aid packages will be reviewed prior to receiving a decision for a semester-long laptop loan. This process is to help students figure out long-term solutions while meeting short-term academic needs.
  • Students who are eligible can loan out a laptop for one semester per academic year. This means that laptops will not be loaned out in consecutive semesters.
Important Eligibility Requirements

Students applying for a semester laptop loan must:

  • Be enrolled in at least 1 credit at SUNY Oswego
  • Be located on campus, as laptops cannot be mailed off campus
  • Exhaust all other sources of funding before applying, including opportunity program funding (ACE, EOP, CSTEP, TOC) and financial aid awards
  • Have a plan in place to secure a device the following semester (no consecutive semester use)
Student Responsibilities

The student is responsible and will be held accountable for returning items by the expected due date established by the Penfield Library staff. Failure to return items may result in penalties as outlined in the equipment borrowing guidelines

Borrow Equipment

Students in need of short-term laptop loans, calculators, digital cameras, computer accessories, chargers, and more can borrow equipment from Penfield Library.

Emergency Fund

Students in need of minor device repairs, small equipment replacement, software purchases, or affordable devices for off-campus living may be eligible for emergency funding.

Computer Labs

In the event that laptop options are not available or suitable for the student's needs, there are numerous computer labs on campus.
