Our department has many employment opportunities for professional staff. All of our positions offer team members the chance to get involved and make an impact on the residential experience of our Laker students in different ways.

*All Residence Life and Housing professional staff (as well as Resident Assistants) are provided training in many different topical areas including in the administration of NARCAN Nasal spray.  This is available at the front desks of each of the residence halls and can be requested by contacting a Residence Hall Director, Assistant Hall Director, or Resident Assistant.

Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing

The Assistant Director (AD) is a full-time, live-off (must live within 35 mile radius to campus), twelve-month Residence Life and Housing (RLH) leadership position with a work schedule that includes occasional evening and weekend responsibilities. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing experienced leadership and mentoring to their designated residential community's professional and student staff, as well as residential students.

The Assistant Director is a key member of the RLH leadership team and will assist in the development and implementation of the RLH mission and goals. They will work collaboratively with a wide range of campus partners to support the overall success of maintaining a holistic residential community focused on student learning and success. Additionally, through one collateral assignment within the department, the Assistant Director will also provide leadership in that specific focus area. Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, counseling, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working with college students.
  • Strong knowledge of student development theory.
  • Experience in student support programs and services, crisis intervention techniques, and conflict resolution
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Assistant Hall Director

Under the direction of Residence Life and Housing, Assistant Hall Directors (AHDs) work within their assigned residential areas to create living environments that facilitate positive learning experiences communities and support the academic mission of SUNY Oswego. AHDs play key roles in the Department of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) and the broader campus community. Assistant Hall Directors live on campus and are therefore available to staff and students outside regular business hours during crisis situations or other critical times. Visit Assistant Hall Director Posting page for a complete job description. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership to paraprofessional staff and student leaders
  • Partner with students to develop vibrant inclusive communities
  • Encourage student engagement, community contributions, and a free exchange of ideas, and cultivation of skills and knowledge
About the position
  • This position is live-in and serves in the on-call rotation
  • Oversees the front desk operation and recycling room
  • Provide high level customer service and support to residents and families
  • Possess effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Supervise and facilitate the development of student staff members,
  • Ability to motivate, develop, direct, and train staff
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Accepted into a Graduate Program or have submitted an application and waiting on a response to go through the interview process
