Apply for Housing

At SUNY Oswego, the residential environment plays a major role in each student's overall University experience.

Living on campus provides students the opportunity to connect and engage outside the classroom. Housing options range from traditional residence halls to suite-style housing to townhomes and all full-time students are invited to live on-campus.

Please read the University Housing Policy below carefully before applying for housing. All SUNY Oswego students must adhere to this policy. Contact Residence Life and Housing with any questions at 315-312-2246 or by emailing [email protected].

¹ Semester room rates are based on the date of matriculation into a degree program in accordance with the “Oswego Guarantee.” Each student’s rate is further broken down by room and/or occupancy type; the specific hall does not influence room rates. The “Oswego Guarantee” DOES NOT APPLY to Summer housing.

² The Residential Rate includes the cost of room, utilities, internet, laundry, academic-year break housing, a fitness center membership, and 24/7 support from caring professionals. Single occupancy in a design double is authorized by the Assistant Vice President for Residence Life and Housing only after the demand for standard accommodations has been satisfied.

³ Plus Occupancy is authorized by the Assistant Vice President for Residence Life and Housing when standard accommodations are not available due to over-subscription. Plus Occupancy is defined as Standard Occupancy plus one (such as three persons in a double room, four persons in a triple room, etc.). Persons in these accommodations will be reassigned to standard accommodations as space becomes available and will be subject to an appropriate rate adjustment per quarter. Students assigned to Plus Occupancy and remain there one week after the first day of classes will receive an adjustment in their housing charges until they can be moved to a standard occupancy space.

Please Note: Rates are subject to change by action of the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York.

Vacancies and Room Changes

The Assistant Vice President for Residence Life and Housing, or designee, reserves the right to reassign residents, fill vacancies, and adjust the occupancy of rooms. The Assistant Vice President, or designee, may also reassign any room at their discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, reassigning ADA-accessible living units in the event that a student requires those accommodations.

SUNY Oswego is committed to providing on-campus housing for incoming new students during the upcoming semester. Therefore, Residence Life and Housing will fill vacancies based on institutional needs and does not offer residents the opportunity to request a new room/suite/housemate(s) during the following periods:

  • Between December 1 and the first week of spring semester classes
  • Over the summer

Residents who receive notification of the assignment of a new roommate(s) must have the living area in move-in condition within one class day. Failure to do so or failure to accept a roommate when assigned may result in conduct charges.

Failure to Check In

Unless prior arrangements have been in writing with Residence Life and Housing, a room may be reassigned if a student fails to officially check in and occupy their assigned room by 5:00 pm on the first day of classes.

Failure to Check Out

Unless prior approval has been granted from Residence Life and Housing, failure to officially check out of or remove personal belongings from the residence hall may result in additional financial charges for removal and temporary storage of the belongings.

Multiple Occupant Living Unit Vacancies

Filling a vacancy will be largely dependent on the timing of the vacancy. During an academic semester, residents in partially-filled units will be able to either request a new mate or agree to consolidate with other students in under-occupied units.

Gender-Inclusive Living Unit Vacancies

The remaining residents may be given the opportunity to request a new mate. Alternatively, Residence Life and Housing may opt to convert the living unit to single-gender and relocate those residents affected by the change.

Disability-Related Accommodations

The Department of Residence Life & Housing refers to the ADA and Fair Housing Act to comply with federal and state mandates to provide reasonable housing accommodations.

Emergency Housing

Residence Life and Housing provides short term emergency housing for any SUNY Oswego student enrolled in classes who has circumstances beyond their control which leads to their need for temporary housing. Students are eligible regardless of their pre-arranged housing location either on or off campus.

Residence Life and Housing in consultation with the Office of the Dean of Students will work with the student in need of emergency housing to determine length of stay, cost, and identify other resources to support the student. Below is important information regarding locations, how to access the rooms and what should be given to students.

Will there be a cost for housing?

Residence Life and Housing will provide the student up to two weeks of complimentary housing to provide time for the student to make arrangements. Students who would like to remain in on-campus housing after the two weeks will be required to complete a housing application and the residential charge (prorated) will be applied to their student account. Students who have questions regarding financial assistance should reach out to the Financial Aid Office.

Will there be a cost for dining?

All residential students, including those in emergency housing, are required to have a meal plan when dining halls are open. For financial assistance students should work with the Dean of Students and Dining Services

What is available to students in the emergency housing rooms?

In each room there will be a linen packet placed on each bed. Students will be able to use this in their space. In the linen packet there is a comforter, sheet set, washcloth and towel. We will also have toiletry kits to provide to the student who moves in.

How will the student gain access to the room?

Students will be instructed to call the Residence Life and Housing professional staff on-call to check into the temporary assignment. The professional staff will meet the student at the assigned residence hall and assign them keys to the room. The student will also be given access to the residence hall using their student identification card. Students that do not have their identification card will be assigned an access FOB.
