BIOGRAPHY:
Tyler King joined the SUNY Oswego faculty in 2025 as the Communication Studies department's first Professor of Practice, specializing in Multimedia Journalism (Sports), after spending more than 15 years in sports and news broadcasting, media production, and communications, building broadcast operations for sports organizations across western Canada.
In addition to his teaching, Prof. King serves as faculty advisor to the campus television station, WTOP-10, where he works with students on live sports production, station governance, and news programming. He is a member of the board of the Syracuse Press Club and continues to work professionally in the American Hockey League as a video producer and public address announcer for the Belleville Senators, the minor-league affiliate of the NHL's Ottawa Senators.
Prof. King earned his master's degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and his bachelor's degree in History and Political Studies from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
His media career began in radio and television news, with roles at CKWS-TV in Kingston, Ontario as a news reporter, CJOK-FM radio in Fort McMurray, Alberta as a news director and hockey play-by-play broadcaster, and Clear Channel Radio in Syracuse. He then spent more than a decade leading communications and broadcast operations in Canadian junior hockey, and served as Logistics Manager at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in 2021. Throughout his career, King has made a specialty of bringing big-league approaches to smaller markets, a philosophy that now shapes his teaching as students strive to produce professional-caliber live broadcasts of Oswego athletics and news.
He resides in Oswego and remains, to a fault, a fan of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.
