Communication Studies

The Department of Communication Studies is where creators, storytellers, and message-minded communicators turn ideas into impact. Our courses go beyond theory. Students dive into hands-on learning that mirrors professional media and communication industries, developing the skills to craft powerful messages, produce compelling media, and connect with audiences across every platform. Whether you want to be the next influencer, report the news, call the big game, launch a campaign, produce a show, or shape how people communicate, you’ll gain the experience, confidence, and career-ready portfolio to make your voice heard.

Our students choose from an array of flexible degree programs designed to provide them with the ability to tailor their curriculum to their skills and interests. Students are highly encouraged to engage with our department through a variety of opportunities, including:

  • our dynamic internship program
  • study abroad program
  • Los Angeles program -- Hollywood POV
  • independent research and creative projects
  • student organizations
  • alumni and professional networking events

We believe our experienced faculty, professional production studios, state-of-the-art technology, and our calendar of annual networking events will provide students the premier experience necessary to succeed in today's competitive and changing market.

Broadcast and Digital Media students help us explore some of the Communication Studies Department's new media facilities inside Hewitt Hall.
