General Guidelines and Strategies

  • Crafting unique hobbies, such as automotive, woodwork, design, and farming, helps develop your hands-on training to bring to a class.
  • Become current with business and industry literature and news.
  • Obtain part-time, summer, internship, or volunteer experience with the age group you intend to work with in various settings: pre-schools, daycares, camps, community agencies, adult centers, YMCA's, etc.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge on machines and tools, such as their uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and national legislation regarding teacher licensure.
  • Gain experience through internships, student teaching, tutoring, and job shadowing.
  • Take some general business and computer courses.
  • Practice curriculum development and technological delivery, like Google Classroom, Blackboard, and Canvas, for class materials.
  • Bachelors and certifications are needed to start, but a Master in Education is recommended and needed in some states.
