One application puts you in consideration for both admission to SUNY Oswego and a variety of institutional scholarships to help you reach your goals. Award amounts listed below apply to students entering in fall 2023.

First-Year Merit Scholarships

Eligibility

First-Year Merit Scholarships, available in two monetary levels, are awarded to incoming full-time, first-year students who have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence with a strong record of classroom achievement in a challenging college preparatory curriculum. In-state, out-of-state and international applicants are automatically considered for First-Year Merit Scholarships.

*Presidential-level award amounts are currently estimated based on the value of a GREEN Unlimited Meal Plan. Fall 2023 award amounts will be adjusted to reflect 100% of the plan value for the fall 2023 semester. Scholarships require on-campus housing status or approved housing exemption.

Renewal

Fall 2023 First-Year Merit Scholarships are renewable for four years by maintaining full-time status, a minimum 3.00 GPA, and housing requirements*.

 

“Free Tuition Plus” Scholarships

Eligibility

“Free Tuition Plus” Scholarships are an invitation for qualifying students to consider a tuition-free future via New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship program, plus the added support of Oswego’s First-Year Merit Scholarships for high-achieving students. Those who may qualify for Excelsior Scholarship will be identified as “Free Tuition Plus” scholars and as such will benefit from reminders aimed at helping them achieve and maintain an Excelsior Scholarship at Oswego.

These scholarships are available in two monetary levels and are awarded to incoming first-year Excelsior Scholars who have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence with a strong record of classroom achievement in a challenging college preparatory curriculum. Incoming first-year students who do not receive the Excelsior Scholarship remain eligible for First-Year Merit Scholarships at SUNY Oswego. Additional steps are required to apply for the Excelsior Scholarship.

Flagship Match Plus Meals Program

Eligibility

Academically qualified residents of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Vermont pay the same tuition at SUNY Oswego as their home state’s flagship university. Additionally, Flagship Match awards provide meal plan support in two-levels.

  • Applicants must submit SUNY Oswego application materials by March 15, 2023.
  • Available to full-time, first-year students who live in select states.
  • Recipients must be admitted and entering in the Fall 2023 term.
  • Flagship awards require on-campus housing status or approved housing exemption.
  • Flagship matches are based from the in-state cost of tuition and fees at the following home state flagship universities:
    UC Berkeley, UConn - Storrs, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, UMass Amherst, UNH - Durham, Rutgers - New Brunswick, Penn State - University Park or UVM - Burlington.

Fall 2023 Flagship Scholarships are renewable for four years by maintaining full-time status, a minimum 3.00 GPA, and housing requirements*.

Transfer Scholarships

Eligibility

Transfer scholarships, available in two monetary levels, are awarded to incoming transfer students who have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence. Full-time transfer students with 24 college credits or more are eligible to receive a transfer scholarship.

*Transfer scholarship distributions will not exceed half of the annual award per semester.

Renewal

Fall 2023 transfer awards are renewable for up to three consecutive years or upon graduation, whichever comes first. Renewal requires full-time status and a minimum 3.00 GPA at SUNY Oswego.

How to Apply

First-year and transfer students should complete their application for admission as early as possible. Those received before Mar. 15 for fall term applicants and Nov. 15 for spring term applicants will get first consideration for admission and awards.

Additional Scholarships

Application and eligibility requirements may apply to the following awards.

Co-op Scholarship

First-year students entering SUNY Oswego in the fall term, with a desire to participate in a paid, full-time, long-term (12-26 weeks) employment opportunity, can apply for a renewable Co-op Scholarship. Co-op Scholarships are awarded in an amount $1,000 above the total of First-Year Merit Scholarships at the Presidential-level. This is currently $7,450 for a maximum award potential of $29,800 over four years. If awarded a Co-op Scholarship, this award will replace your Presidential Scholarship.

To be eligible, students must: apply to and be accepted to SUNY Oswego; meet all SUNY Oswego Presidential Scholarship criteria; commit to participate and satisfy all SUNY Oswego Co-op program criteria; and matriculate into an eligible major. Eligible majors include accounting, biochemistry, business administration, chemistry, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, finance, human resource management, marketing, or software engineering. Possibility Scholarship

The Possibility Scholars program makes an exceptional academic program available for first-year applicants to Oswego’s fall term. This scholarship program transforms the lives of student scholars and sets them on a trajectory to meet both individual achievement goals and humanity’s need for knowledge to conquer pressing global challenges.

When combined with existing need-based aid, Possibility Scholars will receive a substantial scholarship worth over $20,000 per year, enabling scholarship recipients to study abroad, engage in research and graduate with little or no debt after an exceptional undergraduate experience. Only New York state students entering STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) are eligible for consideration, with priority given to high achieving students with significant financial need. The Excelsior Scholarship

Tuition-free college for middle-class New Yorkers
SUNY Oswego has a long-standing commitment to higher education access, college completion and cost predictability. And now, through New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship program, a greater number of New York students and families will be eligible to earn free tuition at SUNY Oswego. Interested students will need to file an Excelsior Scholarship application.
