Students in our generalist program will have the opportunity to learn applicable skills for both the design and implementation of technical and backstage tasks. Designers will gain valuable skill and practical experience in the areas of scenic design, costumes, lighting, props, or sound; while technicians will learn through hands-on experience in areas such as set construction, costume building, electrics, operation, prop building and stage management, all of which will build to the development of a professional portfolio.
Learning Objectives
- To demonstrate, through assignments, a thorough understanding of theatre spaces and structures, theatre organization and management, and design and technical theatre.
- To demonstrate, through work on actual productions or classroom projects, the ability to adapt and apply acquired skills to specific and often unique production requirements.
- To analyze a script to serve their specific production area.
- To create a portfolio of work to showcase their design abilities or advanced technical production skills.
- To collaborate effectively as part of a team, in both classroom and production setting, to achieve a unified goal, while recognizing and utilizing individual talents.
