Each spring, the University hosts the annual Student Leadership Ceremony to recognize student leaders for their outstanding service and commitment to the campus and Oswego community. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to nominate deserving students for these awards. Students are also able to self-nominate. To nominate/apply, please complete the applications for the desired award by March 26, 2025.
Selection Process
- Applications should detail the eligibility of each award and the students' involvement, leadership and commitment to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive environment at SUNY Oswego.
- The nominee(s) will be contacted that they have been nominated for an award and encourage their attendance to the ceremony.
- The recipient(s) will be announced and recognized by the University during the annual Student Leadership Ceremony on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Club Sport of the Year
This award is presented to a club sport that has excelled this year in and out of competition. This club sport has actively recruited new members, provided its membership with a supportive environment that contributes to their students’ academic success and overall well-being. The club sport has been an ambassador of their respective sport to the campus community, has exhibited exceptional sportsmanship and had a successful competition season.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks applications from Club Sports who meet the following criteria:
- Was active throughout the entire academic year
- Actively recruited new members and increased engagement across campus
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting an environment that contributes to students’ academic success and overall well-being
Club Sport Athlete of the Year
This award is presented to individual club sport members who excelled in competition, academic achievement, demonstrated good sportsmanship and was a positive member of the organization. (There can be up to 3 club sport student athletes of the year award recipients. No more than 1 recipient from each of the following categories: women’s club sports, men’s club sports and open/coed club sports).
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks applications from club sport students who meet the following criteria:
- Was active in club sport throughout the entire academic year
- Excelled in competition, academic achievement and demonstrated good sportsmanship
Greek Brother of the Year
The Greek Brother of the Year Award recognizes an individual whose involvement, commitment, and leadership to their Greek organization, the Greek community and SUNY Oswego as a whole surpasses expectations.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for students that meet the following criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Served as a chapter and/or council officer this academic year
- Successfully completed at least 10 community service hours
- Collaborated with other other Greek organizations this academic year
- Represented their chapter, the Fraternity and Sorority Community, and SUNY Oswego in a positive manner
Greek Sister of the Year
The Greek Sister of the Year Award recognizes an individual whose involvement, commitment, and leadership to their Greek organization, the Greek community and SUNY Oswego as a whole surpasses expectations. Awards will be given to one member from an NPC organization and one member from a GLWA organization.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for students that meet the following criteria:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Served as a chapter and/or council officer this academic year
- Successfully completed at least 10 community service hours
- Collaborated with other other Greek organizations this academic year
- Represented their chapter, the Fraternity and Sorority Community, and SUNY Oswego in a positive manner
Outstanding Service Project of the Year
This award recognizes an organization(s) that shows dedication to community service and involvement. These organizations participate in community service opportunities throughout the academic year and consistently search for new and innovative ways to support the campus and the surrounding community.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for organizations that meet the following criteria:
- Was an active organization for the entire academic year
- Communicated effectively with campus and community based organizations for the creation and implementation of this service project
- Documented and record all service hours with the office of Student Engagement and Leadership in Laker Life
- Actively provided the organization with a variety of community service opportunities on and off campus
Outstanding Collaborative Program of the Year
This award recognizes organizations that have co-sponsored an creative, educational, social, and/or recreational event that engaged a wide range of the student body.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for organizations that meet the following criteria:
- Two or more active organizations equally collaborated on the creation and execution of this event
- Each organization was active for the entire academic year
Outstanding Involvement Award
This award recognizes a student who served our campus and community in an exemplary fashion through involvement, leadership, mentorship, community service and event programming. The student selected for this honor makes a significant difference through their involvement.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for students that meet the following criteria:
- Was an active e-board member of an organization throughout the entire academic year
- Increased student membership across the organization
- Actively engaged in community service opportunities
- Provided mentorship to fellow students that increased their sense of belonging
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting an environment that contributes to students’ academic success and overall well-being
Outstanding Advisor Award
This award recognizes your organization's faculty/staff advisor. The advisor has guided, helped grow the organization, and assisted members as needed.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations from organizations who feel their advisor meets the following criteria:
- Was an active advisor throughout the entire academic year
- Actively provided the organization growth and development opportunities
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting an environment that contributes to students’ academic success and overall well-being
Student Organization of the Year
The Student Organization of the Year award recognizes student organization(s) that go above and beyond the normal level of involvement.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for organizations that meet the following criteria:
- Was an active organization throughout the entire academic year
- Increased student membership across the organization
- Actively provided the organization growth and development opportunities
- Collaborated with other organizations and/or departments to host events or activities that engaged a large population of the student body
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting an environment that contributes to students’ academic success and overall well-being
Student Leader of the Year
This award recognizes the highest leadership honor presented to a SUNY Oswego student(s) annually who has served in a variety of significant leadership roles during their college career.
Eligibility
Each year, the selection committee seeks nominations for students that meet the following criteria:
- Has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Has successfully completed at least 70 credit hours
- Commitment or achievement in a leadership position through a student organization, academic department or the college as a whole.
- Participated in a variety of organizations, events, etc. that impacted fellow students through positive role modeling and ethical decision making that increased a sense of belonging to the student body.
