Laker Move-In Crew Assistance

This is a group of returning students who volunteer to come back to campus early in order to welcome our new students to the residence halls. Their primary focus is to physically assist you with moving your belongings into your room as efficiently as possible.  In addition, crew members will be able to answer any questions you might have or point you in the right direction for any further help you might need!

Students checking in

Checking In

Our friendly residence hall student staff will be ready and waiting to officially check you in to your home away from home! You will receive your room key or code, mailbox information, and walk through a number of other check-in stations providing you with helpful information. One of our friendly Resident Assistants will then show you the way to your room and review your "Room Condition Report" with you to make sure everything is in working order!

Meet Your Director and Neighbors

Your Residence Hall Director will be present and walking through your residence hall throughout move-in day in order to meet you and your family and help answer any questions you might have. Your RHD is a professional staff member who is there to help support you during your time living with us. They do everything from making sure our halls are in tip top shape to helping students navigate living with a roommate for the first time. They also have apartments and offices right in your residence hall so they are easily accessible to you! Plan to attend a floor meeting on your very first evening here after completing move-in so you can hear more from your RHD as well as meet up with other students on your floor.

Early Arrival & Late Stay Requests

Students may request to return early to campus at the beginning of each semester or request to stay late at the end of each semester. These requests are not automatically approved and students need to provide the reason they need this accommodation. Approved reasons to arrive early or stay late typically include:

  • Needing to be on campus to complete an academic or athletic obligation
  • Needing to attend a training or provide a service for an on-campus job or position
  • Students experiencing an extenuating circumstance preventing them from leaving by a closing deadline should contact Residence Life and Housing at [email protected].

The daily rate to arrive early or stay late is $25 for housing plus any applicable dining fees (if the dining halls are serving meals). For students arriving early or staying late because they are required to be on campus to complete a training, campus service, or other campus-related obligation, housing fees may be charged to the sponsoring department or waived entirely.

Staffing and services in our residential communities are limited during these periods. Therefore, in order to maintain necessary security, special policies are in effect above and beyond the University and Residence Life and Housing policies.

Early Arrival Accommodations

Send a request to [email protected] at minimum three days before your desired early arrival date.

Late Stay Accommodations

Send a request to [email protected] at minimum three days before the close of the residence halls.

Moving Out Procedures

Spring Semester

Residence Halls and The Village Townhouses will be closing for the summer at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 for NON-Graduating students. Room Condition

You are to leave your room in “move-in condition.”
Have you:

  • Removed everything from the room except University-provided items, including all trash and recyclables?
  • Cleaned the room and its furnishings? This includes sweeping, dusting and mopping, if necessary.
  • Removed all stickers, tape, sticky tack, and personal belongings from the walls and ceilings?
  • Cleaned both the inside and outside of your door; removed any writing and adhesive from message boards?
  • Returned furniture in your room to the original configuration from August?
  • If the room is not cleaned properly, you and your roommate(s) will be charged. If there is damage to your room or furniture it may have to be assessed at a later date.  If so, you will receive a bill via email.
  • The furniture listed on your Room Condition Record (RCR) is assigned specifically to that room. This specific furniture is to be in the room at check-out.
  • Micro-fridges must be unplugged, cleaned,  and left in your room. They will be picked up by the company after residence halls close in May.
You and your roommate(s) are responsible for any damages to your room that are not the result of normal usage. At the time of Check-In, you were asked to complete the Room Condition Report (RCR). Room damages will be assessed from this form. After the residence halls/townhouses are completely closed, each room will be inspected, in detail, by the residential life professional staff for damages. Clean-up and damage charges will be assessed and charged (if applicable). Students who live in suites and townhouse apartments where they share a common room are all responsible for any damages to this space.
