Meet the President

Peter O. Nwosu (the “n” is silent) became the 11th president of SUNY Oswego in August 2023.

Nationally recognized for advancing access to higher education, driving student success, and championing higher education as a catalyst for social and economic mobility, President Nwosu brings a bold vision and a record of transformative leadership.

In September 2023, he introduced Vision 4040: Expanding SUNY Oswego’s Promise, a bold initiative to increase educational attainment and spur economic development across Central New York. Building on that momentum, SUNY Oswego unveiled its five-year strategic plan in February 2025—Transforming Lives, Igniting Possibilities—a roadmap for delivering on the goals of Vision 4040.

SUNY Oswego envisions doubling the annual number of degrees and credentials it awards by 2040 to meet the needs of the Central New York region. Vision 4040: Expanding SUNY Oswego’s Promise establishes a pathway for SUNY Oswego to stabilize degree attainment of 4,000 awards per year — or 40,000 per decade — by the year 2040.
