The Great Lakes Institute at SUNY Oswego brings together researchers, students, and community partners to advance understanding and stewardship of the Great Lakes and their surrounding ecosystems. Through interdisciplinary research, regional partnerships, and hands-on learning opportuniites, the Institute fosters innovation in environmental science, sustainability, and policy. Our mission is to promote the long-term health and resilience of the Great Lakes region for future generations.

Laboratory Resources:
Research laboratory spaces in Shineman Center are card-accessed by all of its members and their students and contain the following specialized rooms:
biochemistry research laboratory,
molecular biology research laboratory,
radiation room, dark room, cold room, shared large instrument room,
shared small instrument room,
biochemistry teaching laboratory,
long-term storage and centrifugation room,
microbiology work room,
mammalian tissue/cell culture room,
greenhouse,
animal care facilities,
a dedicated GIS workroom running ArcView and ARCGIS and mobile radar,
Doppler on Wheels (or DOW).
