SUNY Oswego integrates Great Lakes learning into its academic offerings and community outreach, providing students with unique opportunities to explore environmental issues through coursework, field experiences, and creative expression. Interdisciplinary classes:

The Great Lakes Institute is developing a camp curriculum that will offer immersive, place-based learning experiences for students of all ages—more details coming soon.

  • The Day in the Life of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River project is a successful, collaborative environmental education initiative that engages students in collecting real-time scientific data across the watershed. Through activities like water quality testing, biological sampling, and shoreline observations, students become active participants in monitoring and understanding their local environment. This is the kind of hands-on learning the Great Lakes Institute supports—connecting classrooms to the field and fostering environmental stewardship. Explore resources from the project, all designed to deepen student engagement and learning.
