MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH 2020 FROM 3:30-5:00PM

Did you know that 38% of CEOs reported social media  and online influencers will be the most valuable component of their company’s communications strategy in the future? Join us for a discussion  around what social media managers are saying about their jobs. Who do they report to? What are their main responsibilities? Are they feeling valued? The October 2020 Career Path of a Social Media Professional report will be shared. Additionally, our expert panelists will also touch on the role of social media in the spread of disinformation. A practical guide and 10-point checklist to help people think before they link will be distributed.

Did you know that the 2020 US News and World Report has ranked School Psychologist as one of the 100 Best Jobs (#36)? Come find out why the job placement rates for graduates of the School Psychology program are so high at SUNY Oswego. Faculty, students, and alumni are eager to share their insights to the field of school psychology during National School Psychology Week. In this interactive panel discussion, attendees will hear about the changing field of school psychology, the graduate training program at SUNY Oswego, and the benefits of a career that focuses on helping children succeed at home, school, and in life. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the panelists about their experiences, background, insights to the field, and much more!

People of color make up about 37% of the American population but only 14% of American psychologists. Representation in the mental health profession can present problems when patients are seeking therapists who can understand and/or share their experiences. Statistics also show that communities of color use mental health services at about ½ the rate of white people due to trust, access, affordability, cultural stigmas. This panel will help us further understand the importance for representation and cultural competence, offer recommendations for training mental health counselors, specific tools for therapy sessions and insight for on-going professional development and support.

As K-12 education has worked to incorporate a stronger focus on the needs of the whole child, including mental and behavioral health, the field of school counseling has had to adjust to better meet the needs of children, families, and school communities. No longer guidance counselors, school counselors are integral members of the school community who support students' academic, behavioral, vocational, and emotional needs, and ensure that school communities are supportive, welcoming environments for all learners. In this panel, attendees will have the opportunity to dialog with school counselors about their changing role in schools, their experiences from the field, and their recommendations for those considering a career in school counseling.
