4+1 Pathways

Stay an extra year to earn your master’s degree!

SUNY Oswego offers designed pathways to transition into a master’s degree upon completion of a bachelor’s degree. Most undergraduate degrees are completed within four years. With guided advisement and well-planned registration a master’s degree could be completed in as quickly as one additional year.

Excellent Funding Opportunities

Oswego offers more than $800,000 in funding through graduate assistantships, scholarships and fellowships helping to make graduate education easier and more affordable than ever.

Bachelor Plus

Eligible undergraduates can take up to six credits of graduate coursework for graduate credit, during their last semester, at undergraduate prices.

Graduate Application Fee Waiver

For current students who meet with the graduate admissions counselor, the graduate application fee will be waived ($65).

Guided Advisement and Support

Students will receive specialized advisement as soon as they indicate interest in any of our 4+1 pathways—guaranteeing them support through the process.

The Biomedical and Health Informatics masters program prepares learners to analyze, design, and utilize today’s advanced information technology and data science to create more efficient and effective healthcare environments.

Pathway to » M.B.A.

for Business Administration Majors and Minors

This nationally ranked M.B.A. enhances a student’s business acumen and their competitiveness in the marketplace.


After completing their undergraduate degree in Chemistry, students in this pathway immediately enroll in the MBA program for one year (summer and winter session classes are included). Both on-campus and online options are available.

for All Undergraduate Majors

This highly sought after master’s in human-computer interaction integrates concepts and methods from computer science, psychology, graphic design, and the social sciences.

for All Undergraduate Majors

Become a communication leader and learn to inform, influence and navigate diverse audiences with confidence. Strategic communication students study how to craft and deliver effective an appropriate messages across a variety of sectors including business/marketing, health, media and technology.

M.S.T. - Initial Certification

for Most Undergraduate Majors
• Childhood Education
• Adolescence Education
This pathway is for students who did not major in education but wish to pursue teaching as a career and leads to initial certification eligibility. Pre-admission advisement done as early as junior year will aid in ensuring prerequisites are met.

M.S.Ed. - Professional Certification

for Education Majors

Students who successfully complete this degree program in curriculum and instruction will be eligible for professional certification within NYS.

M.S.Ed. - Special Education

for Students Majoring in Childhood, Adolescence, or TESOL Education
• Grades 1-6
• Grades 7-12
Students stay for a one-year Master’s in Special Education which will prepare them to effectively teach the full range of diverse learners in their future classrooms. At the completion of the five years they will be recommended for NYS teacher certification I both general education (childhood, adolescence, TESOL), and special education. Pre-admission advisement as early as sophomore year is recommended.

M.S.Ed. - Technology Education

for Undergraduate Students Majoring in Technology Education

Students can complete their master’s requirement to be eligible for professional certification with one additional year at SUNY Oswego. This pathway will give students a deeper understanding of technology and how to promote technological literacy in the classroom.
