Our Inclusive Access (IA) program provides digital course materials at a discounted price, automatically available on the first day of class. While this program is designed to save students money and time, participation is optional. All students not wanting to participate can opt out before the semester drop deadline. For the spring 2026 semester, you have until Friday, February 13th to opt-out.
Important: Before opting out, please consult with your instructor to ensure you understand how the digital materials are used in your specific course. Once you opt out, your digital access will be revoked. You are responsible for acquiring all required course materials independently.
Before You Proceed
- Verify Your Course Status: Not all courses use Inclusive Access. Before attempting to opt out, check your course materials for specific e-text options for each of your classes.
- If your course is NOT listed as IA: You must purchase your materials or order the e-text directly through the bookstore website.
- If your course IS listed as IA: Your materials are already provided digitally via the VitalSource link in Brightspace.
- Check the Course Drop Deadline: While Inclusive Access is available on the first day of class, the opt-out process has a deadline that matches the semester's course drop deadline. The Spring 2026 semester drop deadline is Friday, February 13th; after this date, you will not be able to opt out.
How to Opt Out
If you have confirmed your course is part of the IA program, and you still wish to opt out, you have two options:
- Opt Out of a Single Course (Recommended): Log into Brightspace and use the VitalSource link within that specific course. This is the fastest way to process your refund. See Instructions on how to opt out of Inclusive Access in VitalSource.
- Opt Out of All Courses: If you wish to opt out of the entire IA program for all of your classes this semester, please complete the Inclusive Access (IA) Opt-Out Waiver.
Opt Out FAQs
Q: If I drop an IA course, will I get a refund?
If you drop the course before the deadline, you are automatically opted out, and the fee will be removed from your student account. You do not need to fill out a waiver or contact anyone.
Q: I do not see a VitalSource link in my Brightspace course to opt out/in. Who should I contact?
Contact your instructor to add the link. If it is past the deadline, you will not be able to opt out.
Q: I opted out by mistake and realized that I still need my access. Can I opt back in?
Yes, if it's before the deadline. To opt in, use the VitalSource link in your Brightspace course.
- If the VitalSource link is not available, contact your instructor.
- If it is past the deadline, you will be responsible for acquiring all required course materials independently.
