Bio
Dr. Joanne O'Toole coordinates the Modern Language Education Program at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since 2020, she has been Principal Investigator of the Standards and Professional Learning Initiative: NYS World Languages in the 21st Century, a grant from the NYS Education Department's Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages for which she has earned the Gold Award of Excellence in Research and Sponsored Programs. She has held leadership positions in regional (NECTFL), state (NYSAFLT), and local (LECNY) world language organizations. She is the departmental Student Teaching Coordinator, and is a recipient of the SUNY Oswego President's Award for Teaching Excellence. She is also the Teacher Performance Assessment Coordinator (TPA) for the College of Education, Health, and Human Services and is the author of the Capstone Teacher Performance Assessment. The focuses of her scholarly work are in world language teacher education and development as well as world language literacy development.
