Bio

Dr. David Parisian has over 40 years of experience in education as a secondary science teacher and a school district administrator. He has served as a STEM Curriculum Coordinator, where he held numerous national and state curriculum positions. He has been affiliated with SUNY Oswego as an adjunct and now a VAP/Lecturer for the past 27 years, teaching a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses. He serves in the teacher preparation program in the Curriculum and Instruction Department and in the Computer Science Department. He is a certified HeartMath trainer and has used their HRV Biofeedback training to develop innovative heart-brain-coherent curriculum models for enhanced learning, emotional self-regulation and optimal human performance. In 2018, Dr. Parisian was awarded the HeartMath Institute’s Humanitarian Award for his work in teaching and education administration. In addition to the area of HRV Biofeedback, Dr. Parisian’s areas of research are developing Effective Learning Strategies, the effects of stress on student learning and Conscious Educational Leadership related to sustainable teacher leadership practices.

Research 

Dr. Parisian's research interests include applied cognitive science to assist students in their transformation to college academics. He is also researching the field of resiliency and the psychophysiology connections between the heart and brain and the state known as coherence. His goal is to assist individuals to better self-regulate their emotions, manage their energies and achieve optimal performance.
