Our proficiency examination program serves students who seek recognition for achievement acquired outside conventional college classrooms. It helps those entering Oswego as well as those already matriculated.
Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) are the proficiency exams recognized by Oswego for college credit. Any undergraduate at Oswego may receive a maximum of 30 semester hours of credit, and with departmental approval may receive up to a maximum of 12 semester hours of credit toward a major program via proficiency examinations.
Note: Official transcripts from the (AP, IB & CLEP) testing agencies or official college transcripts are required for awarding of transfer credits. Students will need to contact the institution directly to order the transcript. Credits will not be awarded from the high school or unofficial transcripts. Entering students are encouraged to request these before their orientation program at SUNY Oswego.
