Community Initiatives

The Office of Sustainability has many programs designed for and commitments to our campus community and the Oswego community as a whole. These programs meet specific needs of these communities such as access to transportation, affordable clothing, and sustainability education.

Listed below, and on the pages nested to the right, are the community based initiatives The Office of Sustainability organizes.

Oz Thrift

OzThrift is a program involving an end of semester student donation collection across campus. This collection stocks and supplies the semi-annual OzThrift sale creating a circular economy of goods at SUNY Oswego.

Contact us with further questions, or if you're looking to donate anything!

Bike Share Logo

BikeShare

Bicycles are lent for free to students and faculty through our BikeShare program to encourage sustainable transportation on campus and offering reliable, accessible means of transportation for all. Riding bicycles directly contributes to the reduction of our carbon footprint by reducing miles traveled in personal, fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.

For more information on BikeShare or biking at SUNY Oswego, email BikeShare.

Seed Share Logo

SeedShare

SeedShare is a collaboration between the Office of Sustainability and Penfield Library that gives you the opportunity to grow your own plants and learn to save seeds. There is no obligation to save and return seeds, although our hope is that you will grow as a gardener and seed saver and consider sharing your seeds with SeedShare.

Head to the library to grab some seeds and visit the SeedShare guide online to learn more.

Open Garden Hours

Students and community members can attend open garden hours at the Permaculture Living Lab to learn permaculture techniques and help make our campus a more beautiful, productive space.

Look for this recurring event on the Oswego Events Calendar during early fall and mid spring.

Action can directly enhance our resilience towards the problems we face. So, we've created a small list of ways you can take action locally, regionally, and nationally as well as some resources that are super useful.
