Professional Development

Staff are encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities including serving on committees/councils, attending conferences, workshops, and training programs that strengthen their expertise and expand their professional networks.

Mentorship and Collaboration

New staff benefit from mentorship relationships and engagement opportunities that foster a sense of belonging as well as learning across departments and functional areas.

Staff Engagement & Recognition Committee

Description/Charge:  The Staff Engagement & Recognition Committee (SERC) enhances the Division of Student Affairs by fostering a culture of belonging, recognition, and connection.  The committee strengthens staff morale and engagement through onboarding supports, meaningful appreciation efforts, and initiatives that promote community and well-being.

This committee will consist of a chair (or co-chairs) and 8-10 members from various departments across DSA.

Assessment and Learning Committee

Description/Charge:  Help coordinate and support divisional curricular efforts; review and develop division-wide learning outcomes, assessment plans/rubics; support departments in annual reporting process; liaison with Institutional Research. 

This committee will consist of a chair (or co-chairs) and representation from each divisional department.

Marketing and Communications Team

Description/Charge:  Enhance the visibility, engagement, and communication strategies within the Division of Student Affairs, through collaboration and sharing of resources and expertise.  Serve as a driving force behind the division's outreach efforts to enrich the student experience and foster a vibrant campus community.

This committee will consist of a chair (or co-chairs) and 6 - 8 committee members.

Hazing Prevention and Education Team

Description/Charge:  Coordinate a comprehensive, campus-wide approach to eliminate having in all its forms - physical, emotional, psychological, and virtual.  Focusing on the University's commitment to student safety, equity, and belonging, the committee leads efforts to educate the campus community, prevent harmful practices, and foster a culture of accountability, respect, and inclusion.

This committee will consist of a chair (or co-chairs) and 6 - 10 committee members.

Division of Student Affairs Administrative Professionals Advisory Council

The Division of Student Affairs Administrative Professionals Advisory Council (APAC) is designed to ensure open communication between divisional administrative professionals, (e.g., CSEA, technical specialists), and leadership. Meetings will provide a forum for the exchange of information and allow members the opportunity to give input on a variety of matters related to working within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at SUNY Oswego.

Division of Student Affairs Leadership Council

The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Leadership Council is designed to ensure clear communication about DSA goals and strategic aims and involve more divisional leadership in decision-making processes. Members of the division, typically referred to as “middle managers” will have an opportunity to engage with more senior leaders in important discussions about key strategies related to student success and retention, the implementation of the University strategic plan, the development of a DSA strategic plan, the 24-25 budget process, and more.

Division of Student Affairs New Professionals Advisory Council

The Division of Student Affairs New Professionals Advisory Council (NPAC) is designed to ensure open communication between divisional entry-level professionals, (less than three years in their chosen field; including UUP and PEF), and leadership. Meetings will provide a forum for the exchange of information and allow members the opportunity to give input on a variety of matters related to working within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at SUNY Oswego.
