The Office of Learning Services (OLS) is here to support students with tutoring, workshops, and resources designed to strengthen study skills and improve academic performance. Additionally, our Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides personalized support to historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students, ensuring access to resources and creating a supportive environment for academic achievement.

Title III: The Student Success Equity Project

Advancing Equity Through Intentional Peer-to-Peer Supports and Inclusive Pedagogies

In 2023 SUNY Oswego was awarded a nearly $1.9 million grant to complete a five-year project by the U.S. Department of Education. The Title III: Student Success Equity Project aims to enhance student engagement, retention, and graduation rates.  This initiative responds to student performance in entry-level math courses, declining credit accumulation, financial struggles, and equity gaps. SUNY Oswego will develop and implement evidence-based strategies to build an inclusive community, improve academic achievement, and increase financial accessibility, especially for first-year and underserved students. To strengthen the inclusive community, the project will include faculty development focused on inclusive pedagogies and qualitative research to better understand and shape the student experience. An innovative peer-to-peer embedded tutoring program has been implemented in entry-level math courses to improve academic achievement. For financial accessibility, the project will launch a financial literacy peer mentor program, strengthen credit for prior learning for adult learners through a portfolio review system, and develop a holistic scholarship strategy to better support underserved students. Through this multi-pronged approach, SUNY Oswego anticipates increases in student course success, year-to-year persistence, and timely graduation for all students, but particularly underserved students.

Carnegie Foundation

Community Engagement Elective Reclassification

SUNY Oswego has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching with the prestigious Community Engagement Classification, highlighting the college's dedication to community service and partnerships. First awarded in 2010 and as one of only four SUNY institutions to receive it, this classification reflects SUNY Oswego's ongoing efforts to enhance teaching, research, and community benefits. This honor showcases the commitment of students, faculty, and staff to making a positive impact through their service, talent, and problem-solving in ways that benefit the broader community.

The college's reclassification submission in 2020 highlighted the significant positive outcomes for the communities we engage with, including increased prosperity, social equity, sustainability, and greater educational attainment. SUNY Oswego’s faculty, staff, and students work collaboratively with local, national, and international communities through various initiatives, such as research, community service, economic development, service-learning, internships, cooperative education, and community-service projects, fostering mutual benefits and collective success. SUNY Oswego is proud of this achievement and looks forward to applying for reclassification in the 2026 round to continue its tradition of impactful community engagement.
