Health Professions Advisory Committee

The SUNY Oswego Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) provides support for pre-health students as they progress through this phase of their education.

HPAC Letter of Recommendation

Most MD programs, many DO programs, and some others (like DDS and OD) require a letter of recommendation from the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC). You must submit all your materials to the HPAC Chair at 222 Marano Campus Center, during the office hours of 8-11:45 am, Monday to Friday. Materials must be submitted between the first Friday in March, the semester before you submit your summer AMCAS application, and no later than the first Friday in October, the semester after you submit your AMCAS application.

Tip: Start gathering your materials in February, including asking for references, so your application is complete by early March. Interviews and letter writing will start as soon as your application is complete. However, if you finish your application late in the spring or summer, there may be delays in the interview process.

What you will need:

  • Complete the on-line Google form (link below), which will include:
    • A well-organized, biographical statement that includes such things as extra-curricular activities, interests and hobbies, special honors or awards, work experience relating to the medical profession, and most importantly, your specific reasons for pursuing your particular career goal.
    • Contact information for five references. At least two should be members of the Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Math faculty.  At least two must be from your discipline (major). One should be from someone outside the Oswego faculty. References will be contacted directly by HPAC.
  • Email a current transcript, resume, and FERPA Waiver form to [email protected]
