Instructor Bootcamp

In Support of Regional Workforce Capacity Building

SUNY Oswego’s Instructor Bootcamp* was created to train up to 120 professionals from high-demand career fields to serve as instructors in regional high school, community college, adult education, and apprenticeship programs. Upon successful completion of the Instructor Bootcamp, the participants will be more equipped to be employed as instructors who are needed to teach the workforce sought by semiconductor production, supply chain companies, and other related industry partners.

*Note: This Instructor Bootcamp does not lead to K-12 classroom certification


Instructor Bootcamp candidates with validated years of industry work experience and relevant industry certification or licensing will be referred to the Instructor Bootcamp by SUNY Oswego’s workforce development partners.

  • Participants will enroll (at no cost to them) in the 40-hour Instructor Bootcamp taught online during weeknight evenings (40 hours inclusive of additional out-of-class, self-paced assignments) over 8 weeks.
  • Participants will receive a laptop (to keep after successfully completing the Instructor Bootcamp) and, through completing the Bootcamp, earn a $1,000 participant stipend.
  • Upon successful completion and confirmation of hire by a workforce development partner, participants will earn a $100 completion bonus.

Each Instructor Bootcamp will cover 5 modules:

  1. Curriculum and Laboratory Management Systems
  2. Integration of Technology in Curriculum Design and Implementation
  3. Serving Diverse Learners in Career and Technical Education
  4. Instructional Delivery and Assessment in Skills Training
  5. Social Emotional Learning and Career Counseling 

Instructor Bootcamp participants will learn:

  • Instructional and classroom engagement strategies which will be practiced in classroom simulation settings with real-time coaching provided
  • Ways to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Use of instructional technology and online learning systems
  • Soft skills and occupation-specific employability skills


Instructor Bootcamp graduates will be hired by SUNY Oswego partner workforce development programs to teach in-demand occupations. Current partners include:

Bootcamp Dates

The first Instructor Bootcamp cohort will begin in September 2023 and subsequent cohorts will start in December 2023, March 2024, June 2024, September 2024, December 2024, and March 2025.
