Dr. William J. Bowers serves as Associate Provost for Research Development and Administration at SUNY Oswego, where he leads the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and supports faculty and staff in developing, securing, and managing external funding. In this role, he works collaboratively with academic leadership, faculty, and campus partners to advance research, scholarly, and creative activity across disciplines.

Prior to joining SUNY Oswego, Dr. Bowers held research leadership roles in both academic and biotechnology sectors, including serving as Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester and Associate Director of Research at Vaccinex, Inc. He earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Rochester.

Dr. Bowers brings extensive experience in grant-funded research, scholarly publication, peer review, and sponsored program development. His work at SUNY Oswego focuses on strengthening the university’s research infrastructure, expanding faculty access to funding opportunities, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting the growth of sponsored programs across the institution.
