Hands-on Learning Opportunities

CLASE students gain experience while they learn. Across the college, hands-on opportunities connect academic study with real-world application through faculty research, internships, fieldwork, creative projects and community partnerships.

From their first semesters, students apply what they learn in the classroom to real problems, real communities and real careers. These experiences build the skills, confidence and perspective needed to succeed after graduation.

Internships and Career Experience

Internships allow students to apply classroom learning in professional environments while building connections that support their future careers. CLASE students gain experience with businesses, nonprofit organizations, research institutions and government agencies across the region and beyond.

Research with Faculty

Many CLASE students participate in undergraduate research, working alongside faculty mentors to explore questions, test ideas and contribute to new knowledge. Whether conducting scientific experiments, analyzing social trends or designing new technologies, students gain valuable experience in discovery, problem-solving and communication.

Fieldwork and Experiential Learning

For many programs, learning extends beyond the classroom. Students conduct environmental research, participate in archaeological digs, work in community organizations and study real-world systems in action. These immersive experiences help students understand how their fields impact people and communities.

Creative and Collaborative Projects

Students also apply their learning through collaborative projects and community partnerships. From creative writing and media production to engineering design and data analysis, these opportunities allow students to turn ideas into meaningful work while still enrolled.
