Fulbright-Hays Program (Japan)

The Fulbright-Hays Program provides grants to U.S. educators, students, and institutions for overseas research and training focused on non-Western languages and area studies. Funded by Congress through the U.S. Department of Education, it is one of the few Fulbright programs supporting group projects abroad.

In summer 2024, thirteen SUNY Oswego educators spent a month in Japan studying its culture, language, pop culture, and politics. They gathered materials to develop curricula for K-12 and university courses. The trip was funded by a $119,033 grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Art

Engage students with visually rich teaching modules that explore art history, visual culture, and creative expression. Ideal for courses in drawing, design, art appreciation, and interdisciplinary studies — these resources encourage critical thinking about art’s role across societies.

Language

These modules support language learning and cultural literacy. Whether for world languages, linguistics, or global studies classes, the curriculum emphasizes communication skills, cross-cultural understanding, and practical language application.

Pop Culture

Explore global media, youth culture, and contemporary social trends through modules focused on film, music, social media, and popular movements. Perfect for classes examining cultural identity, media literacy, and the intersection of culture and society.

Psychology

Modules in psychology and human behavior — including cognition, social dynamics, and mental health — give students tools to analyze individual and group behavior. Great for psychology courses, interdisciplinary social science, or supplemental study.

Social Studies

Deep-dive into history, civics, world politics, economics, and global issues. These social-studies modules are aligned with global awareness and real-world relevance, ideal for helping students understand institutions, governance, and the interconnected world.

Theatre

Bring drama, performance, and creative collaboration into the classroom. Theatre modules support courses in drama, performing arts, cultural storytelling, and community engagement — combining artistic practice with communication, history, and social commentary.
