About Fulbright Theatre – SUNY Oswego

The Fulbright Theatre Curriculum delivers a collection of instructional resources that enable teachers to engage students in the study and practice of performance arts. Modules include lessons on acting, playwriting, stagecraft, and the analysis of dramatic literature from a range of cultures. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, encouraging students to participate in performances, workshops, and collaborative projects. Teachers are provided with adaptable tools to introduce cross-cultural perspectives, explore storytelling techniques, and support students in developing confidence, creativity, and an appreciation for the global theatrical tradition.

About the Author

Dr. Whitney J Emerson Holds a PhD in Theatre History. Theory, and Literature from Indiana University. He worked for two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre History and Dramaturgy at the State University of New York at Oswego and is currently an adjunct Professor of Theatre at West Virginia University. His doctoral Research investigates how the work of theatre artists construct identities that reflect the modern global city of Hong Kong. Specifically, his dissertation examines both creative concepts and practical performances in the region, focusing on how avant-garde theatre practitioners respond to the city's return to Chinese sovereignty. Whit's academic and creative interests center on East Asian performance, global avant-garde theatre, intercultural performance, and the role of art in shaping social identity.
