The Fulbright-Hays Social Studies curriculum at SUNY Oswego offers a rich collaboration of global-education resources and ready-to-use lesson plans designed for high-school and college instructors. Rooted in the Fulbright tradition of cross-cultural exchange and academic excellence, our program empowers educators to bring diverse perspectives into the classroom — covering history, civics, global issues, economics, and cultural studies. Through curated teaching modules, international case studies, and interactive curricula, Fulbright Social Studies supports meaningful learning that connects local classrooms to a global community.

About the Author

Jing Lei Jing Lei is a full professor from the Department of Anthropology at State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY-Oswego). Professionally trained as a linguist and anthropologist, she has conducted ethnographic research in areas of sociolinguistics, language socialization, bilingual education, ethnic identity, and cultural globalization in both Asia and North America.Through her courses and mentorship, Dr. Lei helps students build the critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness fundamental to Fulbright Social Studies.

About the Author

Don Little Is an American History teacher at William Nottingham High School. He has taught in the Syracuse City School District for 32 years. He is a board member of the Central New Your Council for the Social Studies and the Syracuse Teachers Center. He has served as an Educational Specialist for the NYS Education Department and has been awarded seven National Endowments for the Humanities. Don is also an adjunct professor at SUNY Oswego in the Curriculum and Instruction department. Through his teaching, scholarship, and leadership, Don brings the Fulbright-Hays vision of globally engaged, interdisciplinary social studies into practice.

Tom Little is a veteran educator at William Nottingham High School, specializing in Global History & Geography, AP U.S. Government, and a wide range of interdisciplinary electives, including Anthropology, Film Studies, Ecology & Economic Process, and SUPA Psychology. With a commitment to in-depth historical understanding and critical thinking, Mr. Little brings global perspectives into the classroom, helping students connect past and present world events through multiple lenses. His teaching philosophy aligns closely with the mission of the Fulbright Social Studies program — encouraging cross-cultural awareness, civic engagement, and interdisciplinary learning.
