Student Information: Internships & Co-ops

Eligibility for internship or co-op:

Must be a junior, senior, or graduate student.
Undergraduate students must have 2.5 minimum GPA; 3.0 for graduate students
International students must complete the CPT process through ISSS.
Transfer students must complete one semester at Oswego prior to an internship/co-op.

Get Ready:

Plan what term you want to do an experience. You must register before the term for the internship begins!
Meet with your faculty major or minor advisor (depending on the type/field of internship) to ensure you meet eligibility requirements and to determine how many credits/what type of credit to earn for your internship.
Meet with the Financial Aid Office if you have aid to ensure internship credit is covered.
Search for and secure an experience. We can help with that! Handshake is a great tool to support you in this and our staff are available for both walk-ins and appointments.
Secure a Faculty Sponsor from your major. Some departments have a designated Faculty Sponsor! (This person will support you in creating your learning objectives, assign your academic assignments, and grade you for your experience.)

Get Registered:

Internship hours cannot begin until you are registered. Please read carefully:

Complete the Prior Felony Questionnaire in MyOswego - use link or login to MyOswego and search “felony” once in the system (More information can be found on the Prior Felony Convictions Policy webpage).
Have your site submit the Site Verification Form. Wait for email confirmation from Experiential Learning that it has been received and approved. All internships are reviewed and may require follow up.
Secure a Faculty Sponsor from your major who will give you academic assignments, support the creation of your learning objectives, and grade you for your experience (some departments have a designated Faculty Sponsor).
Follow the instructions in the email you received from Experiential Learning to “Submit an Experience” (your learning agreement) in Handshake with your completed learning objectives (the full approval process take time to complete, so plan ahead).
Once you are registered, you will receive confirmation from Experiential Learning. You can then begin hours after registration is confirmed.

Summer 2026 Interns: After receiving an approved Site Verification form from [email protected], you can apply for a summer internship tuition scholarship!

DEADLINES:

NOTE: Some organizations require a “credit eligibility letter,” a credit verification form, or a formal affiliation agreement. Please ensure this is sent or brought to Experiential Learning. Our Associate Director, Tina Phillips, is the point of contact for these needs. Formal affiliation agreements can take time and may delay your internship.

ALL Site Forms and Learning Agreements must be complete before beginning hours. We will notify you when you are registered and can begin hours!

Registration paperwork OPENS 03/01/26 for Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 terms.

Summer 2026 site forms are DUE by 06/15/26.

Fall 2026 site forms are DUE by 08/05/26

Get Experience:

Accumulate the hours required for the number of credits you are earning (outlined in your learning agreement/Handshake "experience").
Complete all required academic assignments as seen in your Learning Agreement.
Submit a monthly timesheet to Experiential Learning with your completed internship/co-op hours.
Complete the check-in survey in the middle of the semester when Experiential Learning emails it to you.
Ensure your supervisor completes your end of term evaluation. This is emailed to them by the Office of Experiential Learning.
