What should I bring?

To enjoy the full complement of summer services and to make your stay on campus comfortable below is a list of must-haves and recommendations.  

A few notes regarding packing and purchasing items for the summer program:

  • Be mindful of what you bring and/or purchase while in Oswego because when you leave the summer program, you must remove all of your items from your room.  Note: There are no available storage units on campus.
  • If you are taking the EOP bus or another bus, please note the luggage restrictions.
  • You can have items mailed to Hart Hall after June 16th or purchase items from a local store when you arrive to Oswego.  Note:  A trip to Walmart via Centro bus is planned for the first evening you arrive on campus.
  • See below for the student address format.  You can leave the room number blank and only list the residence hall if you do not have your summer room assignment:

Must Haves:

  • Clothing for both cold and warm weather (2 weeks of clothes is recommended; washers and dryers are available in the residence hall and are FREE.)

  • Personal toiletries (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)
  • Shower Caddy
  • Medical Insurance ID card
  • Medication and prescriptions - (if applicable) .  Please try to get your prescriptions for the month filled before arriving if possible.
  • Linens (pillow, blanket, towels, etc.). All SUNY Oswego residence hall mattresses require "extra-long" twin sheets (33.5 inches x 80 inches x 6.5 inches or 36 inches x 80 inches x 6.5 inches).

Recommended: 

The following items are recommended for the summer program. Please remember that these items can be purchased at the local stores in Oswego.

  • Fan - strongly recommended
  • Laundry detergent (liquid detergent is preferred)
  • Notebooks, pens, pencils, and one 2-inch, three-ring binder
  • Clothes hangers
  • Alarm clock
  • Swimsuit
  • Spending money
  • Insect repellent
  • Laptop/tablet (only if you own one; otherwise computers are available on campus)
  • Jacket and umbrella  

What NOT to bring per SUNY Oswego Res Life and Housing:

Please review the "What NOT to Bring" list as directed by SUNY Oswego Residence Life and Housing.

The following items are prohibited.

  • Air Conditioners
  • Candles
  • Extension Cords Without Surge Protection
  • Hoverboards
  • Incense
  • Microwave Oven
  • Oil Burning, Halogen, Lava, Torchiere/Tree-style &
  • Multi-head or “Octopus-style” Lamps
  • Other Cooking Appliances, such as:
  • Crock Pot
  • Hot Plate
  • Grilling Machine
  • Rice Cooker
  • Sandwich Maker
  • Slow Cooker
  • Air Fryer
  • Toaster/Toaster Oven
  • Pets
  • Tapestries/Flags

Additional "What NOT to bring" to EOP Summer Program:

  • Car (you are not allowed to have a car on campus during the summer program)
  • Any weapons or projectiles:  Please review the Weapons and Dangerous Materials section of the SUNY Oswego Student Handbook for further information regarding SUNY Oswego's weapons and projectiles policy.
  • Valuables (They cannot be secured.)
  • TV (There is a TV in the main lounge of the residential hall.)
  • Refrigerator and Microwave (We provide a refrigerator for the summer program.)
