What I enjoy most about working with students:
I enjoy their sense of humor! Even though therapy work can be intense I feel like I end up laughing with all of my students.
What are your areas of focus or interests in Counseling?:
I often focus on the narrative of someone’s life and their strengths. I’m also interested in using a feminist and social justice based approach to conceptualize therapy. I’m not an art therapist but I enjoy using expressive arts and creativity in therapy - we might draw, which people sometimes freak out about but we persevere.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work I love swimming in the lake, pools, wherever. I always want to be spending time outside (so mindful am I right), reading, or watching movies. I’m often once again pressing play on like, The Parent Trap but also enjoy going to see a new movie.
What advice would you give to your first-year self?
I would say to leave the dorm more! I would mainly advise against taking an 8am Philosophy class. What happened in that class? I’ll never know, I was asleep.
