Biography

From Chittenango, New York, Dylan Barrett achieved his BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Illustration and a minor in Art History at SUNY Oswego. He completed an internship with Tyler Art Gallery as a Social Media Intern and is on SUNY Oswego’s Dean’s List. In the future, he’ll be looking for a dedicated graphic design position somewhere of interest and has plans to work as an Illustrator on the side.
 

Artist Statement

The work shown at my exhibit was done to define myself as a Designer and Illustrator. For my illustrations, inspiration was derived mainly from nature and children’s book artwork. My graphic design work feedback and input from my professors and peers have made the biggest impact on the development of my Graphic Design work. With my Illustrations, I tried to create a unique style that was simple, effective, and visually endearing. With my design work, I focused on developing a minimalistic, somewhat geometric style that’s heavy on balance.

Art 412 Advanced Problems in Traditional Illustration

Two white and orange koi fish form above swimming around in some water. There are lily pads and lotus flowers all around them. The fish, lily pads, and flowers in the work all have thick black linework with a textured color fill. The texture seen in the work could be described as similar to the somewhat coarse texture you might feel on a rock.

Art 412 Advanced Problems in Traditional Illustration

In the poster we see a minimalized and somewhat geometric interpretation of fireworks being set off over Oswego Lake. In the forefront of our view we see the Oswego lighthouse. Coming out from behind the lighthouse, with dotted lines trailing them, we see the fireworks. The fireworks consist of a number of orderly lines, dots, and star shapes. The lighthouse sits on a horizon line, from which a gradient that goes upwards from white to black is seen.

In this work we see a blue betta fish and an axolotl from above. They're both swimming against blue water, with red flowers surrounding them. There are several branches coming out from underneath the several flowers. The animals and plantlife in the illustration have thick black linework, and have a textured color fill with the consistency of a somewhat coarse rock.

Koi Swimming

We follow a Koi fish swimming through water, while lily pads and lotus’s flow past above. The water consists of a blue watercolor paint, while the koi, lily pads, and lotus’s display a textured colored pencil fill with thick inked outlines.
