Aulus Saunders served as Chairman of the Art Department from the 1930’s – 1960’s. An accomplished painter, he made portraits of notable people on campus. Here he portrays English professor “Jimmie” Moreland after whom Moreland Hall is named. Moreland’s formal pose and clothing sit in stark contrast to the informality of his students mingling in the background.
