Both included in the now famous Armory Show in 1913, William Zorach and his wife the American painter Marguerite Thompson helped spread modern European artistic ideas in the U.S. after moving to New York in the early 20th c. Despite early success as a modernist painter, Zorach would concentrate on sculpture after 1922. He quickly found success in this realm too and often combined elements of classical and primitive sculpture.
