Sociology Club

Sociology Club Activity Flyers

The Sociology Club is a student organization open to all students at SUNY Oswego. Over the years, the Sociology Club has organized various events, such as

  • Fundraising activities for local charities
  • Guest speaker events and faculty panels
  • Collective actions in support of immigrant, worker, and human rights
  • Paper and poster presentations at conferences
  • Movie nights and field trips

The Sociology Club elects its own officers, meets regularly, and is supported by a Faculty Advisor, Dr. Tim Dacey. Check out the Sociology Club on instagram @oz_sociologyclub or contact them at [email protected]

Research & Teaching Assistantships

A faculty member and student research assistant present their research at the Fall Scholarly and Creative Activities Poster Symposium in 2024.
  • Research Assistant positions are available for students to conduct research with our faculty.
  • Teaching Assistant (TA) positions for Intro Sociology and Social Work classes are regularly offered and count towards the Sociology major and minor. Twelve Sociology credits and instructor permission are required. Ask your Sociology professor if you can serve as a TA for them in a future semester!
  • Internships are not part of the Sociology major or minor requirements, and therefore, the Sociology Department does not officially provide internship opportunities. However, if a student finds an agency or company that will provide an internship with sociological value and the student then finds a Sociology faculty member willing to oversee the academic aspects of this internship, we will support the internship.
  • Log in to Handshake to get connected to thousands of employers that have internship, full-time, part-time, and temporary job vacancies. Your account is already set up and waiting for you; all you need to do is login with your LakerNet ID and password. Students wishing to complete an internship should consult with their faculty advisor and the Center for Experiential Learning.
  • Independent studies are rare in the Sociology Department. However, if a student has an interest in an area of sociological study not offered in regularly scheduled courses and finds a faculty member willing to oversee this independent study, we will support the independent study.
