Update from the President - April 2024

External Engagement

  • Led the Oswego County Micron Strategy Steering meeting in Syracuse, attended by external stakeholders.
  • Facilitated a Strategic Planning focus group meeting with external stakeholders, guided by Dr. Timothy Mottet and Dr. John Jasinski, our facilitators from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Attended by Vice President for University Advancement Mary Canale, Faculty Assembly Chair Elizabeth Schmitt, Executive Director of Career Services Jennifer Hill, Assistant Vice President for Workforce Innovation and External Relations Kristi Eck, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Scott Furlong and Director of Operations in the Office of the President Jamal Coleman. 
  • Meeting with our Strategic Planning facilitators, Dr. Mottet and Dr. Jasinski.
  • Attended the SUNY Comprehensive Sector Presidents’ meeting.
  • Attended the SUNY Presidents’ meeting.
  • Participated in Jefferson Community College’s inauguration of its seventh president, Daniel J. Dupee, II.
  • Attended the CenterState CEO Board meeting.
  • Held a Zoom meeting with Assemblyman William Barclay regarding our legislative priorities, attended by Vice President for Administration and Finance Victoria Furlong and Assistant Vice President Eck. 
  • Met with Assemblyman William Magnarelli regarding our legislative priorities with Assistant Vice President Eck, and Provost Furlong. 
  • Led the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) Board Spring meeting via Zoom. 
  • Attended the New York Times (NYT) and American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Symposium for Presidents and Provosts, along with Provost Furlong.
  • Served on the Ghana Society of Central New York Community panel to discuss “Advancing Sustainable Vibrant Democratic Societies in Africa: The Way Forward."
  • Held Zoom meeting swith SUNY Oswego alumni Paul Westfield, Newton Paul and Karyn Rose.
  • Met with the external reviewers from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) regarding Music Department program re-accreditation.
  • Held a Zoom meeting with external reviewers for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) Review.
  • Attended the SUNYAC Presidents’ meeting via Zoom. 

Internal Engagement

  • Met with Student Association President Austin Davis and Vice President Oghenetega Adjoh with Vice President for Student Affairs Kathleen Kerr.
  • Attended the “Making Sense of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: A Faculty Panel Discussion” facilitated by Faculty Assembly Chair Schmitt.
  • Hosted Faculty and Staff drop-in session in the Chu Atrium.
  • Hosted Student drop-in session in the Marano Campus Center food court.
  • Hosted and delivered remarks at the Faculty and Staff of Color dinner in Sheldon Hall.
  • Attended the Engineering Industry Showcase, co-hosted by Career Services and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
  • Hosted SUNY’s Senior Counsel for Legal Affairs Peter Harrington.
  • Led the President's Facilities Planning Group meeting.
  • Met with faculty in the Biological Sciences Department, accompanied by the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dr. Kristin Croyle and Director of Operations in the Office of the President Jamal Coleman.
  • Met with faculty in the Computer Science Department, accompanied by the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dr. Kristin Croyle and Director of Operations in the Office of the President Jamal Coleman
  • Attended and provided remarks at the Student Leadership Ceremony in Sheldon Ballroom.
  • Continued to hold meetings with individual faculty, staff, and students in the president’s office.
  • Chaired University Budget Advisory Group meeting at the Marano Campus Center.
  • Met with the co-chairs of the Presidential Inauguration Planning Committee, Dr. Rich Bush, chair, Department of Technology Education, and Vice President for University Advancement, Mary Canale, along with Assistant VP and Executive Director of Auxiliary Services Stephen McAfee, Director of Campus Events and Conference Services Lisa Bramley, and Director of Operations in the Office of the President Jamal Coleman. 
  • Chaired the President's Council meeting held at the Marano Campus Center.
  • Met with the chair, Department of Politics, Dr. Allison Rank, to discuss the Vote Oswego Project and the American Democracy Project.
