Good evening, esteemed faculty, staff, students, honorees and valued members of the Oswego community.
It is my great honor to welcome you to SUNY Oswego’s inaugural Presidential Awards for Inclusive Excellence. Tonight represents a significant milestone in our institution’s history—one that reflects not only our identity but also our ongoing efforts to grow and improve.
As part of the SUNY system, we are rooted in a strong and lasting mission: to provide high-quality education with the broadest possible access, serving and reflecting all parts of our society. Especially in a time when the national landscape can sometimes feel divided or uncertain, we are fortunate to be part of a system that remains committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. These are not just abstract ideals—they are central to our identity and vital to our role as a public institution.
These awards represent a key expression of that commitment to inclusive excellence. Led by the Triandiflou Institute, they recognize outstanding faculty, staff, students, campus organizations and community members who have made exceptional contributions to advancing equity, inclusion and diversity both on our campus and beyond.
This initiative reflects our shared belief that inclusive excellence is more than just a goal; it is a responsibility, one that urges us to foster a campus culture where every individual feels seen, valued, respected and empowered to succeed.
Before we recognize this year’s honorees, I want to thank the many individuals whose efforts made this evening possible.
To everyone who took the time to submit thoughtful nominations, thank you for recognizing your peers' work and helping us highlight the impact happening throughout our community.
To the members of the Triandiflou Advisory Committee and the co-chairs of the Pluralism Committee, thank you for your thoughtful and careful review of nominations and for your dedication to ensuring that this recognition reflects both excellence and integrity.
And to the Triandiflou Institute and everyone who helped organize this event, your leadership and coordination have brought this important celebration to life. We appreciate your dedication.
This evening, we gather to honor individuals and groups whose work reflects ongoing commitment, meaningful impact and strong alignment with SUNY Oswego’s mission and values. Through their efforts—whether promoting inclusive practices, supporting underserved communities, shaping policy or strengthening the community—they demonstrate what it means to lead intentionally.
Their work reminds us that excellence and inclusion are not separate pursuits—they are deeply interconnected. When we embrace the full range of perspectives, identities and experiences within our community, we not only strengthen our institution, but also expand what is possible for everyone.
As we celebrate our award recipients tonight, let us also reaffirm our shared commitment to creating a university where inclusion is integrated into every classroom, every office, every conversation and every decision.
To our honorees: thank you for your leadership, vision and unwavering dedication. You inspire us, and we are proud to celebrate you.
And to everyone here this evening: thank you for being part of this important moment in SUNY Oswego’s journey.
