Honors Convocation April 2026

Good afternoon, everyone.

It is such a joy to be here with all of you—to celebrate an extraordinary group of students and the people who have supported them every step of the way.

Today’s Honors Convocation remains one of our most cherished traditions, dating back to 1965, when the remarkable members of the Vega Women’s Honor Society helped reimagine what was then Moving Up Day. More than six decades later, we continue to gather—proudly and joyfully—to recognize academic excellence, personal dedication and the hard work that defines the Oswego spirit. The ongoing involvement of Vega speaks volumes about the enduring strength and character of our students, past and present.

To our honorees: You are the heart of today’s celebration. Through your resilience, research, creative achievements, leadership and academic excellence, you have earned this moment of recognition. We are deeply proud of you and look forward with great anticipation to all you will accomplish in the years ahead.

We also recognize that no one reaches this milestone alone. So let us take a moment to acknowledge and thank:

  • The parents and families who have supported and encouraged you,
  • The friends who stood by you (and perhaps shared a late-night coffee or two), and
  • The dedicated faculty and staff who have mentored, challenged and inspired you along the way.

Please join me in a round of applause for everyone who made this day possible.

Together, you represent what is possible. Together, you stand as a living testament to the Oswego Promise—our commitment to providing access, fostering excellence and empowering every student to transform their lives and ignite new possibilities for themselves and their communities.

It is my honor to join you in this celebration. On behalf of our entire SUNY Oswego community, congratulations—and thank you for making us all so proud.
