Dear Members of the SUNY Oswego Community–
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kristen Eichhorn as interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She will also continue to oversee Graduate Studies as Dean, and the College of Business and Entrepreneurship (CoBE) as interim Dean, until further notice.
Dr. Eichhorn joined SUNY Oswego in 2007 as an Associate Professor of Communication Studies after five years as an Assistant Professor at Towson University in Maryland, and was promoted to full Professor in 2014.
Dr. Eichhorn has held several leadership roles at SUNY Oswego, including Chair of the Department of Communication Studies (2009–2013), Interim Dean of the Division of Extended Learning (2013–2014), and Dean of Graduate Studies, a position she has held since 2017. Under her leadership, graduate enrollment increased by 34%. In fall 2025, she was appointed Interim Dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Eichhorn has also served as a Presidential Faculty Fellow in the Office of the President at SUNY Oswego, a SUNY Faculty Senator, and a participant in the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Leadership Program, completing her fellowship year at Cornell University.
An active scholar and leader in her discipline, Dr. Eichhorn is the author or co-author of numerous scholarly publications and presentations. She has directed, chaired, and served on committees for multiple master’s theses and remains deeply engaged in academic service. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools, the Board of Governors of New York Sea Grant, and the Advisory Council of the Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary, among other professional and community roles.
Dr. Eichhorn earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida; her M.A. in Communication Studies from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia; and her B.A. in Communication Studies and Spanish from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. She also participated in study abroad programs at the University of North London in the United Kingdom and the University of Oviedo in Spain.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Eichhorn for stepping into this new role. I am confident she will have the full support of our campus community.
Remain well,
Peter O. Nwosu
