Dear Members of the SUNY Oswego Community–
Today, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day. Among them were 12 beloved members of our SUNY Oswego family, whose names are forever engraved on our hearts and in the history of our university.
This day remains a solemn reminder of the devastating impact of terrorism, but it also encourages us to reflect on the extraordinary courage, unity, and resilience shown in its aftermath. From first responders and ordinary citizens who rushed to help, to communities across the nation standing in solidarity, we continue to draw strength from their example.
On our campus, we will observe this anniversary with several tributes. The University Police Department will participate in the City of Oswego’s Silent Procession and Remembrance Ceremony. The carillon bells will ring at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., and 10:03 a.m. to commemorate the times of the attacks. Flags will be lowered to half-staff, and I invite you to visit our 9/11 Memorial Garden near the Glimmerglass Lagoon, dedicated to our beloved alumni:
- James Potorti ’72
- Wendy Morris Faulkner ’74
- Leo Roberts ’79
- Michael O’Brien ’81
- Michael Collins ’84
- Richard Caproni ’89
- Michael Hannan ’89
- Michael Cawley ’91
- Melissa Renee Vincent ’94
- Scott Bart ’95

As we reflect on their lives, let us also reaffirm our commitment to the enduring values of freedom, justice, and compassion. May this day strengthen our resolve to build a world rooted in peace and understanding, and
Remain well,
Peter O. Nwosu
