For this Mindful Monday, join Kyle Dzintars '08 '11 from the Counseling Center to discuss strategies for managing stress via self-care and for helping you feel more grounded in your body. Make some time to prioritize yourself in this session, bring calm and joy into your body, and find helpful ways to reduce stress in challenging moments.

Long gone are the days that employers are hiring students with just a strong GPA. Employers today are looking for students with some related experience and a unique set of qualifications in addition to a strong GPA. Panelists share where they found their experiences, what knowledge and skills they gained and how they created opportunities when they didn't find exactly what they were looking for.

Gallup's research found that only 13 percent of people find meaning in their work and 1 out of 5 are using their talents in their careers. Not only does the Imagine 2022 series want YOU to find meaning in the work that you do, but also to help you find a career that plays to your strengths. CliftonStrengths is an online assessment that identifies your “top 5” Themes of Talent. It allows you to explore and strengthen your talents, discover a career path that builds off of your strengths, and learn to use your strengths to excel!

Quindell Williams

My Identity & My Career

Listen in as Kamal Morales '22 chats with alumnus Quindell Williams '11 about his identity and career.

Quindell majored in Broadcasting and Mass Communications and is in his third year as a Career in Tech educator teaching drone technology to high school students in the Syracuse City School District. Prior to his career in education, Quindell was a drone pilot and photojournalist for CNY Central News in Syracuse, where he earned several recognitions for his work, including two Emmy Awards.

As a student at SUNY Oswego, Quindell was very involved on campus with BSU, WNYO, WTOP and volunteered at the annual Dr. Lewis B. O'Donnell Media Summit.

Quindell was recently awarded the Oswego GOLD Alumni award for his contributions as a mentor for the college and his community.

In this workshop you will learn more about the life design mindsets while taking steps forward in building a life you love – a life based on your interests, strengths and values, that's meaningful to you and crafted with moments of joy, experiment and play.

Here are additional ways to engage in your career development - at your pace - this week and beyond! 

  1. Connect with Career Services @ozcareerservices on Instagram and/or Tik Tok
  2. Check out Information Interviews on CandidCareer and sign up to connect with an alum through the Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) Program.
  3. Watch/listen to an informational interview from Imagine 2021 about discovering your career path with alumna Molly Matott '15, moderated by Nirdishtha Raj Sapkota '21.
  4. Check out the “What Can I do with a Major in…” website to research careers, professional associations and resources related to your major/minor.
  5. Complete Focus2 self-assessments then book an appointment with a Career Coach to discuss your results.
  6. If you missed the “Meaningful Work: Explore Your Talents and How to Apply Your Strengths in Your Future” workshop, you can still complete StrengthsQuest (Clifton Strengths for Students) self-assessment! Email [email protected] to receive your free access code to take the assessment.
  7. Identify at least one thing you can “prototype” to explore a career path you may be interested in.
  8. Make an appointment with a Career Coach to further discuss your Odyssey Plans and what you’d like to prototype.
