To say that the last two years have been challenging is an understatement!  In addition to more amazing guest speakers, we’ve put together a series of programs that will help you to take care of yourself, develop grit and resilience, and bump up those grades this semester.

Hannah O'Brien

My Identity and My Career

January 20, 12-:30-1pm

Tune into Instagram Live as Hannah O’Brien '17, M'19 chats about her identity and her career. Hannah completed her undergraduate degree in Childhood Education and her master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction at SUNY Oswego. During her time as a student, she worked at the Telefund, participated in a variety of on-campus programs such as Mentor-Scholar (now Focus Forward), Women in Technology and Girls Who Code; and was the vice president of the Education Honor Society and president of the Human-Computer Interaction Organization. Hannah currently lives in Syracuse and works at National Grid in data analytics.

Weekly Checklist

Here are additional ways to engage in your academic success and career development - at your pace - this week and beyond! 

  1. Review your spring class schedule in myOswego to see if there are any changes!

  2. Assess your spring schedule (classes, work, social life) and make a plan for completing work.

  3. Review books and instructional materials needed for classes.  Plan your purchase/rental of these books and materials.  It is always best to have the books in hand in the first week.  Order through the College Bookstore!

  4. Check your computer access—to MyOswego, Blackboard, SUNY Oswego Google email, SUNY Oswego Google email

  5. Check out the Advisement Center resources—AND scroll down to see recorded workshops and other resources such as time management strategies like the “Pomodoro Method.”

  6. Get organized!  Set up your note-taking system.  Use Google calendar to keep dates and appointments organized.. Plan to go through EVERY syllabus and put in assignments, due dates, and exam dates.  You won’t regret it!   Check your calendar DAILY.

  7. Set up a dedicated workspace (hint: don’t study in your bed).  Do you want to sign up for a Study Carrel in Penfield Library?  Study carrel registration begins at 8:00 am on the first day of classes!.

  8. For a more structured experience to get on track, enroll in “Reflect and Refocus: Strategies for Oswego Success”, a 5 module workshop offered via Blackboard.

  9. Review the courses tutored by the Office of Learning Services.  Be prepared to set up tutoring appointments EARLY in the semester.

  10. Browse the College Events Calendar and Laker Life to see what clubs and organizations, as well as departments/offices, are offering to stay involved on campus.
