Ellen joins the SUNY Oswego Counseling Services Center in September 2017 after spending the last five years as the director of the student counseling center at Paul Smith’s College. She has been working in higher education for the past 10 years. Before receiving her MSW, from Smith College School of Social Work, she was the Director of Recreational Therapy at Provo Canyon School (a residential treatment facility for youth at risk in Provo Utah). She received her undergraduate degree and her first Master’s degree (in recreational therapy) from Brigham Young University. When Ellen in not working she can be found hiking with her dogs, kayaking with friends, reading, singing in a choir, and spending time with her family and friends.

Trainings Offered:

Ellen is a trained presenter for QPR - Question, Persuade, and Refer, a suicide prevention method that can be offered to faculty, staff, and other groups on campus.

Key Components Covered in Training:

  • How to Question, Persuade and Refer( QPR) someone who may be suicidal
  • How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
  • The common causes of suicidal behavior
  • The warning signs of suicide
  • How to get help for someone in crisis
  • Training is 60-90 minutes long.

There is a cost of $5 per person to cover the cost of the booklet each person will receive.
