Tech Requirements

Recommended Specs

  • Memory should be 16GB or higher
  • Hard drives should be 512GB, 1TB preferred
  • 1TB of storage is strongly recommended for students planning to study Multimedia, Video Editing, Motion Graphics or 3D Modeling and Animation
  • Purchasing an extended warranty is highly recommended

Computers and Devices

While our computer labs have only Macs, students can choose to use a PC as their personal device. For PCs, 16GB RAM is preferred, and should be a minimum of 8GB. Any of the current iMac desktop models or MacBook Pro models are good options. If using a laptop, we recommend buying an external monitor as laptop screens are too small to work on graphic design projects efficiently, or with clarity. Apple monitors are really good, but very expensive. We recommend ASUS or Dell, 21”-24” but there are lots of reasonably priced options for monitors. Depending on the monitor, you will also need to purchase adapters to be able to connect with your laptop.

We use Adobe products, including:

  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
  • InDesign
  • Premiere
  • Bridge
  • Acrobat

There will be other software needed, depending on what students want to focus on. We recommend buying additional software as needed, after checking with the professors teaching in those areas.
