Biography

Cara Brewer Thompson was born in the Ohio River Valley. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and moved to Central New York in 1988 to attend Syracuse University as a graduate student. She received her MFA in 1991in printmaking and has not made a traditional print since. Soon after graduate school, her attention to digital media (a then “brand new” media) was piqued and she began working in both traditional and new media. She has taught at SUNY Oswego since 2003.

Research

My current research focuses on the use of XR applications to create immersive art experiences using VR as an authoring tool. I have a passion for exploring emerging media and technology and love to bring my students into that realm with me.
